The incredible beauty of lighting the world with God's light

I was flying into Chicago one 4th of July weekend just as some fireworks were erupting. Fiery sparks stirred the sky, bursting through the night, brilliant inks of light on a canvas of stars. It was so beautiful!

Fireworks mesmerize us. They are both chaos and predictability as we watch their blazing trails arc above while they’re burning colors etch into our minds.

The only way we have the opportunity to see this illuminous masterpiece is because of the connection that comes from the spark when the fireworks are set off. Without that connection to ignite it, the incredible vision of light can’t be displayed.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

It is always our goal to share God’s light with others. We carry the story of God’s redeeming love for us and His amazing grace given through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. That is our light to the world.

Just like fireworks we need a connection to support the light we shine in this world. Our connection is the Holy Spirit. When you tell that story of God’s redeeming love and sacrifice you are creating those fiery sparks that burst into color against the night canvas. When you fulfill God’s purpose by telling this story, you are building that illuminous masterpiece that explodes with brilliant color and flair.

The 4th of July fireworks captivate us, they are an exquisite picture of how the right connection creates happiness for those watching. In that same way, having the right connection with the Holy Spirit allows our light to shine, to burst into a fiery display of color that brings incredible joy to the world.

This week as you enjoy the magnificent displays of light in your neighborhood, I hope that you will also see your potential to share God’s love and redemption and bring an even more magnificent light into the world.
