Has the world gone mad? It certainly feels that way. There is no toilet paper, milk, eggs, hand sanitizer, bread and the list goes on. There is also no snow, hurricane or flood. Welcome to the world of COVID-19 in 2020. Just last week we were joking about the time change, full moon and Friday the 13th, all happening in one week. That's always an interesting and a little bit frightening trifecta for those in healthcare and education. No one could have predicted that our whole world would change before Friday even got here.
Today, schools are closed, nursing homes are quarantined with no visitors, there is no March Madness and restaurants can only offer takeout and delivery. President Trump has declared that only ten people can gather together in one place as we become comfortable with the term social distancing.
The world leads with fear. There is hoarding of food, paper products and hand sanitizer. Maybe people feel like that is the only thing they can control. There is anger, tension and anxiety. And there are so many questions, with few answers.
The world leads with fear, because the world is upside down and no one is sure where to turn for answers. There appears to be little to no hope right now, only chaos and the unknown.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
Friends, we have an opportunity today. The world leads with fear, but we need to lead with Jesus. The world is trying to figure out how to gain back some semblance of control. They are looking for peace but don’t know where to find it. They want comfort but are unsure how to get it. We are called to be His light in the storms of this world. We hold the only Beacon of light the world needs.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
We are blessed to know the answer, the only answer needed. As the world leads with fear, we get the opportunity to introduce them to our Jesus. While the world is floundering in the chaos, we get to show them the love of a Savior that was so big, He died for all of us. When the world feels the weight of anxiety, they need to meet our mighty God – who wants to carry us to a place of rest.
I invite you to join me in boldly and loudly sharing our Jesus, our Comforter, our Redeemer. He chose us to show the world who He is in the chaos and to tell them of a love so big it saved the world. We can reveal the only One who can bring the peace that passes all understanding in a world gone mad. We have the honor to teach them that this broken world is not their home; that there is a place with no more pain and no more tears that allows us to live with Jesus every day, if we just know Him as our Savior.
We know the beautiful mystery and wonder that is Jesus. The world needs a hero . . . a Savior. We know Him!! And He has chosen us to share His light in a world that desperately needs it.
